The ethnographic film festival is a space for encounters and discussions that stimulate, inspire, irritate, and create friction. Due to the latter in particular, the festival is a place where visitors, helpers, and organizers display mutual respect, attention, and awareness. To be aware can be understood, as being aware of prejudices, stereotypes, privileges, and hierarchies. We strive for encounters based on consent such as by respecting one’s preferred pronouns. Sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, and violence or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. We want everyone to feel comfortable.

The awareness concept is designed to help us practice awareness. It serves as a practical guide to dealing with disputes, assaults, boundary crossings, and discrimination mindfully and constructively. During the Regard Bleu Festival, the concept will be implemented by visibly recognizable awareness volunteers. The Awareness Team can be contacted via e-mail () before and after the festival.

Accessibility

The festival will take place at the Ethnological Museum at the University of Zurich (Pelikanstrasse 40, 8001 Zurich). The museum is wheelchair accessible and has an inductive hearing system. For more information about the museum’s accessibility, we invite you to visit the museum’s website.

The films are all subtitled and therefore accessible to people with hearing impairments. As this is a visual medium, we have no means of making the films accessible to visually impaired people. However, you are invited to listen to the films and draw your pictures in your head, and to take part in the workshops and events at our festival. The Awareness Department is here to help people who experience barriers to address and overcome them with you. However, the Awareness Team is not trained in all forms of disabilities and how to deal with them. We are therefore open to feedback and interested in further training in accessibility.
